Hoosier Novels on the Big Screen

Are you an avid reader? Are you a fan of the movies? If so, you can’t miss this event.

Hoosier Novels on the Big Screen highlights Indiana authors whose books have been adapted to film, including some of the most popular and critically acclaimed movies of all time.

The Indiana Mizzou Crew is sponsoring this event at the Indiana State Library, 315 W Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis. Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Mizzou alumnus Dan O’Brien is a former Emmy award-winning television sportscaster and freelance writer who lives in Greenwood. He has also authored the screenplay Rube, the story of one of baseball’s greatest pitchers.

Learn about the rich variety of novels penned by Hoosier authors which have made it to the big screen over the last several decades from Indiana’s Golden Age of Literature until the present day.

Here are reviews from some who have seen O’Brien’s presentation.

“Well prepared and researched. Clearly knew the topic and did the entire presentation without notes.”

“I like that he’s not all seriousness, he’s lighthearted but informative.”

“Well researched, well presented with narrative, slide show, and film clips.”

“Excellent presentation and very interesting…..had no idea of the Indiana influence on Hollywood.”

Come see for yourself and learn about some of Indiana’s literary history.

Mizzou Giving Day 2018 is almost here!

Where does Indiana Mizzou Crew scholarship money go? How does it help Indiana students? Find out from the students themselves.

Carmen Haynes

“Thank you so much for providing me with this scholarship. I was
nervous about the extra cost of choosing an out of state school but this
scholarship has allowed me to be able to attend Mizzou with much
less financial burden and I’m so grateful that I’m able to attend my first
choice school where I know I’m getting a good education.”

Russell Bauman

“Mizzou is without a doubt the perfect place for me. The high standard in the journalism school inspires me to do well academically and prepare for my professional future. I have been shaped by the things I’ve done and the people I’ve met at Mizzou.”

Would you like to help a Central Indiana high school student benefit from the Indiana Mizzou Crew Scholarship Fund? You can on the Scholarship Challenge for Mizzou Giving Day 2018!

Every year your alumni chapter presents one student with a $1,000 scholarship renewable for four years. With your help we could give even more. This year the university will match donations, but only if submitted during a 24-hour window in March.

Beginning at 1 p.m. March 14 to 1 p.m. March 15 all donations made at givingday.missouri.edu will be matched.

Last year’s challenge raised almost 3,600 gifts to schools, colleges and programs. A total of $8.3 million was donated overall for Mizzou’s students, faculty and programs.

Finals Care Packages

Due to the fact that our Finals Care Packages were received so well last spring the Indiana Mizzou Crew decided to continue the practice for the fall 2017 semester.

We included a couple ways to keep the energy up along with granola bars to help keep the students going while working to ace those finals.

Last spring we received some responses from the students.

Margaret Wesley Mizzou Class of ’19 said, “Thank you so much for the finals care package!! I’m from Evansville, IN and the only one from my city to come to Mizzou my year so I was thrilled to get something from Indiana, it made my day. Thanks again!”

And Lillie Heigl tweeted, “The Indiana Mizzou Crew is the cutest chapter of @MizzouAlumni cause they sent a little love for finals.” You can see her tweet at Lillie’s Tweet .

If these packages bring even the slightest help to our students, the Indiana Mizzou Crew is honored to have helped.
